Small Accomplishments

The fan in my bedroom was making a strange noise because it was not anchored correctly in the ceiling. Now, while I am able to fix computers with ease, hardware, software, configuration problems, etc., I am dumbfounded when it comes to cars, basic maintenance on house stuff, etc. This doesn’t bother me, but astonishes others who say, “You can build a server, build a computer, fix any problem, etc. but you can’t change you own oil?” Now I may be able to figure out how to change my own oil, but the fact is that I would rather ask someone else to fix the problem so that I do not electrocute myself or just plain cause more problems. But yesterday for some reason, I took it upon myself to fix the fan in my room. I had someone that was going to fix it, but decided that I should just get it done if I could. So I took off the blades, the bulbs and covers, unscrewed some other parts, and put a screw into the top to secure it. After putting it together I was amazed that it actually worked, and it worked quitely, the way it was supposed to be. I felt great pride in my small accomplishment unlike all of the times I’ve fixed someone’s computer or email or anything like that which seems to come naturally to me. It’s funny how something as simple as fixing that can give you a confidence boost. I’m curious, though, does anyone have areas such as home maintenance, etc. that makes them feel better when they complete a small task?
