I know it’s a bad joke and I apologize Reader’s Digest fans. But my point to this article is to share the spectacular moments I’ve had being a Helpdesk Technician, but I dont have a uniform and… nevermind. The following situations are those that I’ve experienced first hand:
User: My internet is broken.
Me: What is it doing?
User: The screen is all black!
Me: Is your monitor turned on? User: Oh! Nevermind. (Hang Up).
User: Did you guys slow down the internet?
Me: Not that I know of.
User: Well fix it, please.
Me: I just pressed the turbo button.
User: Thanks!
User: My computer is dead.
Me: What happened? Did you do anything to it? User: Nothing, I moved it from one office to another and now it’s not working.
Me: Did you plug everything back in?
User: I’m not that stupid, sir.
Me: I’m not saying you are, but would you please check.
User: Uh, ok it’s fixed. *Click*
These are just some of the random phone calls I’ve received, among countless emails that people send before they think about the problem. If I receive any others, I’ll be sure to post them, but those are ones that have stuck with me over the past 4 years.
My favorite experience thus far from assisting users with the workstations and what not is..
Charlene: Why did you break our internet Justin!
Justin: What are you talking about Charlene?
Charlene: The fedex computer out here in the mailroom is broken!
Justin: Huh?
Charlene: Come look at it…
I walked into the small mailroom at the current place of employment and glanced at the workstation…
Justin: Could you show me what you’re trying to do, it seems to be okay..
Charlene: No its not! Look, when I try to type it doesn’t work, the internet is broken or something.
I push the wonderful Num Lock key right above the number seven on the keypad, Justin is so smart!
Justin: Try now..
Charlene: See, I thought you had something to do with it!
:end of story:
I thought that was absurd that I broke it when she was just too freaking stupid to turn on the num-lock. But oh well! haha
